The following standards will be addressed during the month of October:

ELA: Ask and answer questions to understand details in a text, main idea, and describe connection between a series of historical events, idea, or procedure in a text (RI1, RI6, and RI3)

Math: Add and subtract within 20 and 100 using place value, properties of operations, money, picture graphs and bar graphs

(OA2, NBT5, MD8, MD10)

Science: Scholars will learn about the stars (physical attributes-size and brightness)


Social Studies: Scholars will learn about the Georgia's Creek and Cherokee (SSG2)

Writing: Informational Writing (W2)

WICOR: Quick Writes & Reflections

Your scholar is required to read 20min every night.

Ways to help at home: read with your scholar, go over all assignments with your scholar, create stories with your child, and allow your child to become independent and responsible for their actions!!!

How to keep your AVID Binder together:

The AVID binder is a great organizational tool used at Sims Elementary. This binder is used every day and will be brought back and forth from school and home each day. It is to be kept neat with no loose papers and supplies in it at all times. The students will be graded on the binders and their organization.

Parent’s Corner

Remind messages are sent weekly.

If scholars are absent, please send an excuse.

Essential Agreement Communication folders are sent on Tuesday.

Homework is assigned on Monday (due Friday).

Please send a note if your child has a change of transportation.

Please sign your child’s Essential Agreement form each night

1. Pencil Pouch with crayons, glue, scissors and two pencils

2. Agenda ~ include name and teacher. Agenda serves as homework, spelling, or vocabulary words and important information written by your child.

3. 5 subject notebook
