5. Report of the Principal
Update on hybrid model and return to school- Teacher preparation took place several weeks in advance for the hybrid model. Various schedules (restroom, restroom, etc.) were developed. 6 feet floor markers placed down throughout the school. Hand sanitizer stations are available on each hallway. Student friendly hybrid learning PowerPoints to review expectation. Tea Talks were held with parents to explain the hybrid model at SES. Zero cases of positive cases of COVID at Sims. Teachers practiced how to teach hybrid and virtual learners on several occasions to prepare for concurrent teaching. We have extra PPE available. Contract tracing was briefly explained and the mention of the RCPS contract tracing website was references. Sims has had a smooth 2 weeks of school. Ms. Beasley and Mrs. Graves shared their positive insight with hybrid learning. Half of our population return for in-person instruction.

Spring Testing GMAS (May 3rd)- The RCPS testing calendar was shared to the School Council. The ELA Milestones has 3 parts and will be administered over 3 days. No retests will be administered this year. RCPS are working on the logistical information for virtual and hybrid (F2F) learners. F2F will take the Milestones in the building. Virtual scholars will have the option to "Opt Out" of testing. Testing may occur multiple times a time. The district is still in the planning stages for the RCPS GMAS testing procedures and testing structure. Mrs. Coachman-Wright is the testing coordinator for the GA Milestones. March 25th- Milestones Parent Workshop. 3rd-4th Grade scholars will take the ELA and Math GMAS. 5th Grade scholars will take the ELA, Math, Science, & SS GMAS. More information will be provided to stakeholders.

L4GA Grant - Tentatively for next school year 2021-2022, SES applied for a literacy grant. Ms. Beckett reviewed the components of the school literacy plan to the School Council. The document is linked in the School Council meeting minutes. The grant will cover literacy across all content areas. Additional staff, additional assessments, and 90 minutes literacy block are key components.

Staffing for next school year and new positions based on allotment- New positions have been gained for SY21-22. We were able to create a few new teaching positions based on FTE (school enrollment). We will have 2 gifted teachers (K-2, 3-5) in the building next year. 20-21 46.15      21-22    48.21

Title I Budget for 21-22- 80% of Title budget should be used for staffing. The funding for some programs used for instruction may be cut due to funding staff.

FY 21-22- A RCPS Virtual Grades K-5 School will be available next year. RCPS teachers  may  apply to teach virtually.  F2F scholars will report to school Monday-Friday. Based on the number of scholars who apply for virtual school, the number of teachers may increase or decrease at SES. Parents will submit a survey of the learning choice for SY2021-2022.

Vaccines for COVID- RCPS employees are able to receive their COVID-19 vaccine, if interested. It is not mandatory. Vaccinated employees will continue to wear masks.

Change in School Year- May 28th is the last day of school. The Board voted to change the last day of school from June 10, 2021. The 3rd and 4th Quarter have been adjusted. End of the Year Celebrations will be held prior to May 28th.

2021-2022 RCPS Calendar Survey

Teacher Appreciation- First Week of May (May 3rd-May 7th). PTO and School Council usually collaborate and support Monday-Friday of Teacher Appreciation Week. The School Council can email Teacher Appreciation ideas to Ms. Beckett and Mrs. Coachman.
