Welcome to 2nd grade. We are looking forward to a wonderful school year.  Parents please bring in school supplies and make your child has their AVID binder set up and organized. Together we can help him/her achieve success.

Below you will find the standards we are working on.

Math

We will finish our unit on Base ten understanding, place value and counting by 2's 5's and 10's to 1000. Also we will begin graphing and adding.

ELA

Writing- The scholars will begin learning how to write a paragraph.

Reading- The scholars should need to be able to ask and answer questions such as who, what, where, when, why, or how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a fiction or non-fiction text.   They should also be able to tell the difference between a story and a poem.

Science

The scholars are will begin studying stars.

Social Studies The scholars will be introduced to the regions and rivers of Georgia.

 Your scholar is required to read 20min every night please write the title of the book and sign off in the agenda. 

Ways to help at home: read with your scholar, go over all assignments with your scholar, create stories with your child, and allow your child to become independent and responsible for their actions!!!

How to keep your AVID Binder together:

 The AVID binder is a great organizational tool used at Sims Elementary. This binder is used every day and will be brought back and forth from school and home each day. It is to be kept neat with no loose papers and supplies in it at all times. The students will be graded on the binders and their organization. I

1. Pencil Pouch with crayons, glue, scissors and two pencils

2. Agenda ~ include name and teacher. Agenda serves as homework, spelling, or vocabulary words and important information written by your child.

3. 5 subject notebook (that will be labeled by subject)

1 pair of headphones/Ear Buds

PARENTS ALL SCHOLARS need ear buds to use the devises

 

Wish list items: 1 box of Kleenex and 1 bottle of hand sanitizer to donate to specials teachers, 1 pack of individually wrapped candy, 1 can of Lysol, and small toys for the treasure box
